Root Canal Treatment
Pain-free endodontic therapy to save infected or severely damaged teeth.
Root canal treatment (endodontics) is a highly successful procedure designed to save a tooth that has become severely infected or decayed. Thanks to modern anaesthetics and advanced rotary techniques, the procedure is now virtually painless and no more uncomfortable than having a standard filling.
The Procedure
When the dental pulp (the nerve inside the tooth) becomes infected, it can cause severe pain and abscesses. During the treatment, we carefully remove the infected nerve, clean and shape the root canals, and seal them with a biocompatible material to prevent further infection.
Restoring the Tooth
After a root canal, the tooth can become brittle. We highly recommend restoring the treated tooth with a custom-crafted porcelain or zirconia crown to provide strength and ensure the tooth lasts for many years to come.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is root canal treatment painful?
No. We use profound local anaesthesia to ensure the tooth is completely numb before we begin. Most patients report feeling immediate relief from the toothache they were experiencing prior to the visit.
How long does the treatment take?
Depending on the complexity and which tooth is being treated (molars have more canals than front teeth), it may take 1 to 2 visits, each lasting between 60 to 90 minutes.
Can I just have the tooth extracted instead?
While extraction is an option, preserving your natural tooth is always the preferred clinical choice. Losing a tooth can lead to bone loss, shifting of adjacent teeth, and difficulties chewing.
